Enchanting Kerala & Backwaters

Overview

Day 1 - Arrive at Cochin
Arrive at Cochin, where on arrival you will be transferred to the hotel. Its name itself brings up thoughts of fishing nets, spices, Ayurveda, and ships sailing over the blue sea. Appearing to be growing daily and different from the rest of Kerala, it’s a fusion of traditional and modern cultures. With skyscrapers touching the sky on one hand against the shadows of the majestic Fort, Kochi is everybody’s delight. Interestingly, the common factors between both these worlds are the red city buses, yellow auto-rickshaws, and ever-friendly people. From old times, the city has been host to Arabs, Chinese, Dutch, Portuguese, French and British traders who also came here to admire this beauty. It now is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country with three IT parks in close proximity. It isn’t difficult to determine the potential of this city in terms of business and employment. To sum it up, Kochi is the best starting point to explore God’s own country, since the most famous places in Kerala are here, close to each other. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Overnight in Cochin.

Day 2 - Cochin Sightseeing
Breakfast at the hotel. Later enjoy a city tour covering Mattanchery Palace- gifted to the king of Cochin, by the Portuguese in 1555, about a 500-year-old Jewish Synagogue, St Francis Church, Chinese fishing nets, and local spices market. Later in the evening enjoy the colourful performing art – of Kathakali Dance. Overnight in Cochin.

Today, it offers beautiful vistas, cardamom and spice plantations, aromatic oil factories, sights of several endangered species, and the purple-blue of the Neelakurinji flowers that bloom every 12 years. On arrival in Munnar, check-in at the hotel. Later proceed towards the Tea Museum which gives an insight into the history of tea plantations in this region. Later visit Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, and Flower Garden.

In the afternoon, you could take a hike through the misty plantations or simply relax and your hotel and enjoy the cool breeze high up in the hills. The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mulla Periyar dam across the Periyar river adds to the charm of the park. Other inhabitants of Periyar include the leopard, wild dog, barking deer, mouse deer, Nilgiri langur, bonnet macaque, sambhar, porcupines, squirrels, gaur (Indian bison), wild boar, and sloth bear. Kumarakom Lake Resort featured as "One of the most Luxurious Holiday Destinations in the World" on BBC. The rooms, villas and suites at Kumarakom Lake Resort are a perfect blend of Kerala's traditional architectural charm with luxurious, modern comforts. Each is a careful reconstruction of manas, the 16th century traditional homesteads of Kerala, with many such manas having been transplanted from their original locations and reassembled painstakingly by hand, plank by plank, tile by tile, to create the luxurious abodes at Kumarakom Lake Resort. The traditionally styled, luxuriously modern, open-roofed bathrooms set in small, aesthetically designed courtyards are a common feature to the villas and suites.
