Namaste!

Welcome to India!

We welcome you in the capital city of India, for a journey across the fascinating history-markers of medieval north India. Wars were fought and rulers changed in Delhi but ordinary lives were lived in relative continuity. Glimpses of these can be seen even today as the character of the city underwent massive changes in the last decades. In the lands fabled to have seen seven cities, signs of the old are continuously jostling with the new, presenting an ever-fascinating panorama. Day 2 - SIGHTSEEING OF DELHI

Delhi is often distinguished as the old and new, the old referring to the pre –British habitations and the new is Lutyen’s Delhi, built to suit British sensibilities and the rapidly expanding city of independent India. However as we walk you through this city which has fascinated one and all for centuries, you will see that these demarcations are fluid with an intermixing of the old and new Delhi’s producing a supremely fascinating pulse to its city life. After breakfast we visit old Delhi, the capital built by emperor Shahjahan. The narrow winding lanes best traversed by a cycle-rickshaw house some of the oldest inhabitants and also the oldest trading establishments of the city. Visit the historic Jama Masjid, drive past the Red Fort. On our way back contrast the swift architectural changes brought by the colonial rulers mirroring styles from across Europe and adapted to the Indian environment. Drive past the Rashtrapati Bhavan (Presidential Palace) and the secretariat buildings, the impressive Rajpath and the World War I memorial arch, the India Gate.

In New Delhi visit the 12th century Qutub Minar, gracefully hand-carved for its entire height of 234ft, and the iron pillar, which has withstood the ravages of time and not rusted even after 1500 years. Visit the mausoleum of emperor Humayun - a forerunner of the Mughal style of architecture. Drive past the India Gate (war memorial dedicated to the lives of laid down by the Indian soldiers), the president's residence - formerly the Viceroy's Palace, parliament House and the Secretariat buildings, - an interesting blend of the Victorian and 20th century architecture.

Day 4 - SIGHTSEEING OF AGRA

Early morning at sunrise (subject to weather conditions) visit the world famous Taj Mahal built by Shah Jahan in 1560 in memory of his queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. This architectural marvel is a perfectly proportioned masterpiece fashioned from white marble that stands testimony to the skill of 20,000 craftsmen brought together from Persia, Turkey, France and Italy and who took 17 year to complete this ' Love Poem in Marble'.(Closed on Fridays).

Pay a visit to this unique café in the city of Taj Mahal - a café run by 5 Acid Attack Survivor or should we say Fighters? This is the first time in India that survivors of such evil attacks have come forward to pursue their dreams and break all stereotypes which our society has been using to force them for living their lives in closet. 'Sheroes Hangout' is located on the road leading to Taj Mahal and includes a café which serves some lip smacking snacks, a library that has been set up with contributions, a section for handicrafts and a boutique where one of these survivors will stitch her dreams. The café has been set up entirely through crowd funding as the campaign behind this initiative believe in the power of humanity. This café is a centre for activism as various type of campaign related to sale of acid or creating awareness issues for acid attacks and other kind of discussions based on feminism, women empowerment, personality development, skill enhancement, and different kind of youth oriented plus cultural events are organized here. The idea of Sheroes Hangout is not only to generate moderate source of income but also to rehabilitate acid attack 'fighters 'by empowering them through enhancing their skills, and building their confidence to make them self-efficient. All these acid attack fighters belong to different regions but they are working together to make this place a success so that many such places like this can be made to encourage other victims for turning into fighters. We call them fighters as no better word come in our mind after listening to their stories and their 'never say die' spirit. There are no set rate for any item listed on the menu and visitors can eat & drink and pay as per their wish.

Later visit Agra Fort - Diwan-E-Am (House of Commons), mosques within Fort and royal pavilions like Macchi Bhavan, Shah Jahani Mahal & others. Day 5 - DRIVE AGRA-FATEHPUR SIKRI-ABHANERI-JAIPUR (245 KM / 06 HRS)

Today morning leave Agra for Jaipur, visiting Fatehpur Sikri en-route.

Located 40 kms from Agra, the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri was built by Emperor Akbar in 1569, in honour of the great Saint Sheikh Salim Chisti who blessed Akbar and prophesized the birth of three sons to the heirless Emperor. Akbar used Fatehpur Sikri as his capital and the city was fully occupied for 14 years but slowly became deserted and ruined after Akbar left the city. Scarcity of water was the prime factor for the abandonment of this beautiful city. Visit the remarkably well-preserved, graceful buildings within the 'Ghost City' including the Jama Masjid, tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal Palace and other palaces that speak of the grandeur and splendour of the Mughal empire at the height of its power.

Post visit of Fatehpur Sikri, continue drive to Jaipur, drive another 130km (2.5hrs) and stop at ABHANERI - THE WONDER OF WELLS: CHAND BAOLI The first visual effect on setting sight of the stunning architecture is that of jaw dropping awe- an Egyptian pyramid turned upside down! Chand Baoli is a stepped well built by Raja Chand in the 8th/ 9th century AD for harvesting rainwater. Built on a square plan, the stepped well comprises an incredible 3,500 plus symmetrically laid out steps going all the way down to the pit. The steps surround the well on three sides, having 13 stories while the fourth side has set of pavilions built one on top of another. It is a 100 feet deep. Water was drawn by means of a Persian wheel rotated by an ox from within a pavilion. A relic from our glorious past, Abhaneri is truly a destination worth a visit off the beaten track of the Golden Triangle.

After continue your drive to Jaipur. On arrival check in at hotel.
