Oman is a visitors rare chance to engage with the Arab world without all the show of excessive wealth. The towns here still have their traditional charms and Bedouin values which make it the heart of an Omani welcome. Oman has spectacular mountains, wind-blown deserts and a pristine coastline. If you want to see Arabia’s modern face while at the same time experiencing its ancient soul, then Oman is the place to be. Its capital city Muscat was established centuries ago around a pair of natural harbours. The respect for heritage here is quite clear with elegant mosques, conservative tastes and smart café’s.
A list of the most popular places to visit in Oman include the Grand Mosque in Muscat which was a gift to the nation from Sultan Qaboos to celebrate his 30th year of reign, the Bayt Al Zubairwhich is a privately owned museum houses displays of Omani heritage. Some of the exhibits include traditional handicrafts, furniture, stamps and coins. It also has a café and souvenir shop. The Sultan’s palace also in Muscat, is a great place for a photo opportunity although visitors are not allowed inside. For some shopping, head over to the Mutrah Souq. The stalls here sell Omani and Indian artifacts along with traditional textiles, hardware and jewellery.
